Here are a few frequently asked questions that we have received from clients.
How long can I keep the skip?
The normal hire period is 7-10 days, but we can arrange a longer or shorter hire period if required.
Do I need a permit?
If placed upon your on property then no you do NOT need a permit. If placed on a public road / highway then YES you require a permit. You will need to obtain this permit from the local council, a process that can take up to 3 days.
What size skip do I need?
Please refer to our Skip Sizes article to obtain a rough estimate of the type of skip you may require. Unless ground space is an issue, go for a skip that is slightly larger than what you think you might need. That’s because the room inside the skip seems to disappear quickly when you start adding items! If you need more advice for choosing a skip size, contact us on 01268 856327.
What is a drop-door skip?
A drop-end skip is a normal skip, but one end drops down to create a ramp into the skip. This type of skip is great when loading up with a wheel barrow. These are currently available in 4, 6 & 8 yard sizes.
How much can I put in my skip?
We ask you to keep it all waste level with the top of the skip. This will help to ensure that nothing falls from the skip during transit. Additionally, skips larger than 8 yards are unsuitable for heavy waste (soil/concrete), as they can breach the lorries maximum load. If you have any questions about how much you can fill your skip, feel free to contact us.
What can I put into my skip?
Skips are designed for the disposal of inert, non-hazardous materials. This includes items like bricks, tiles, hardcore mix, furniture, blocks, paper, top soil, concrete, ceramics, wood, plasterboard, plastics, metals, doors and many other items. The only materials that can’t go into the skip are items that are potentially dangerous (see below).
What can't I put in my skip?
You cannot put the following in a skip, if you are unsure feel free to call us:
- Asbestos
- Gas canisters
- Tyres
- Fridge / Freezers
Where can I put my skip?
If the skip is going to be placed on your private property, it can be placed anywhere the lorry can reach. However, it is recommended that it be placed in a location with flat ground to reduce the risk of someone slipping as they place material into the skip. Also, skips be quite heavy when fully loaded, so they shouldn’t be placed on driveways made from soft materials.
When can you drop off & collect?
We operate 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday). Same day drop off & collection available.
How quickly can I get a skip?
We can usually deliver a skip to your property on the same day that you call us. However, if the skip is going on the road, you will need a permit from the council which may take up to 3 days to process.
